Why wear white when you could get married in a pink Zimmerman wedding dress, teamed with pink Loeffler Randall shoes, a pink headpiece, pink earrings and pink lipstick, all donned in your serene green room at Dorset Square?
A laid-back Anglo-American wedding in Marylebone is the stuff September Pictures' dreams are made of, so we're very grateful to Californian bride Jessica and her British groom George for inviting me along. It was my first Dorset Square wedding morning but it's long been one of my favourite boutique hotels in London, ever since way back when I had a private tour in my guise as editor at Mr & Mrs Smith. I wish more couples would invite us over before their ceremonies! It's a really good choice for a stylish London wedding night (or any night, really – I even sent my parents for their anniversary a few years ago).
The February morning in Marylebone was freezing but brutally sunny, which I think was slightly more fun for me (getting to play with the beautiful light) than it was for the nearly-weds (trying not to shiver or squint). But on the plus side it's a very short stroll from Dorset Square to the Old Marylebone Town Hall and really picturesque whatever the weather.
And one final note: there's something especially wondrous about photographing pregnant brides. Our children are five and two already, and whenever Petra looks at old pictures of us, from way before she was born, she asks why she's not in them. I love that when Jessica and George's daughter one day looks at her parents' wedding photos they'll be able to point her out, right there, draped in every shade of pink in the London winter sun.
